I’m looking for a new sandbox to play in. Sick of the algorithms and social platforms owned by rich dudes. Looking for inspiration, cute animals, beautiful photos and truthful accurate politics. I will probably share same.

The Economist ran this story this week. Yes...they are coming for veterans benefits. No one voted to destroy the VA or the benefits that our 15 million living veterans receive. Just 6% of Americans have served and these fuckers are coming for our hard earned benefits.

"Democrats who shy away from conflict hurt themselves...They create voids that get filled from two directions, on one side with unpopular activist-driven memes and ideas, and on the other side with Republican attacks."

X follower count is eroding as people close accounts, while Bluesky follower count keeps rapidly swelling. The lines seem likely to cross soon. I kept posting gift links to stories etc on X six months ago and paused using Bluesky because X is where people were; this time it feels like it may stick.

An Immigrant Died Building a Ship for the U.S. Government. His Family Got Nothing. Elmer Pérez was one of many immigrants hired by U.S. shipbuilders to fill the urgent need for skilled labor. These workers do the same jobs and take the same risks as their American counterparts, but ...

Before the election, I wrote about how a young immigrant's death in a Louisiana shipyard is emblematic of a U.S. system that relies ever more on immigrants, even as employers and politicians vilify them.

With minimal time left in the Democratic majority, the Senate has now confirmed a new head of the Office of Government Ethics. In a 50-46 vote, senators voted to confirm David Huitema as the new ethics czar for a 5-year term.
This means the Biden pick will serve throughout Trump's presidency.
The move shines a light on the recent issues with the transition of power. Trump thus far has refused to sign any transition-related ethics agreements with the Biden administration. Without these agreements, Trump's teams are unable to transition to office or receive access to federal agencies.
The Office of Government Ethics is not only responsible for overseeing the executive branch ethics program and preventing financial conflicts of interest but is also heavily involved with reviewing Cabinet nominations. The Senate's confirmation comes at a time when many are questioning the validity and ethical standards of Trump's proposed appointees.
