We currently have a gas boiler and I couldn’t conceive of spending £1-2k on changing it. Obvs if it went wrong and we had to replace then we’d be forced to do something on credit. But most families aren’t going to spend that sort of money unless they had no choice.

Problem is it involves every single person replacing their gas boiler with a heat pump. Most can’t afford the outlay so it’s going to take a long time for all houses to be gas/oil free.

It’s also very limited. We recently sent a product to Africa. It was easy and cheaper than the EU. We’ve been trying to sort the paperwork to send something into the EU for months now - yes months - a long phone call finally sorted it. But it’s complicated and really expensive. Imagine relying on it

They aren’t. They will borrow huge amounts to nationalise water and change the fiscal rules. This means the cost of running the governments debt will escalate which can only mean higher taxes or cuts.

That’s my point. This are has never been Labour. Areas like this will go Reform. I think that’s how they win. Labour/Green will split the vote.

Possibly. But Gorton and Denton has a very different demographic to East Anglia. Labour & Greens never register. We have 1 of the safest Tory seats - Matt Hancock then Timothy. It’ll likely go Reform though.

Both cities. That’s the difference. More rural areas and market towns feel completely left behind. Greens don’t offer the policies for working people who are struggling, if anything will make things way worse. People can’t afford higher taxes and bills. That’s why they’re turning to Reform.

Ah Cambridge. I’m 30 mins away with Nick Timothy as an MP - likely to be Reform next time - tbh Labour are an absolute dream in comparison. Cambridge is nothing like most of the country - I visit a lot.

Problem is @chriscurtis94.bsky.social I can’t see labours current policies turning this around. I don’t blame them, the economic inheritance was disastrous but people only see high bills and high taxes. There’s some good stuff but not enough to shift the dial.

It’s worth noting too how involved Oakeshott is in Reform who, if polling is to be believed will be our next government. We happy with such influence from someone serving a foreign autocratic governing government?
