Sure, I suppose, but if you want to prevent them from disingenuously spreading their arguments under the guise of leftism, it does actually sometimes require the ability to clearly identify and articulate what they are doing

How to effectively respond to bigotry is going to be different based on the tone and framing of those advancing it. It changes who they are targeting with their messaging and who they are trying to appeal to. It’s not about what they “really” believe politically in their hearts.

Similarly, I think that people who claim to be progressive/leftist but embrace transphobic bigotry are not ‘actually’ progressive but there is still an important difference between right-wing Christians who attack trans people and those who try to promote transphobia under the guise of leftism

Sure, but they still push themselves as progressive whether or not you or I think that is an accurate description of their politics. They position themselves as leftists who are “willing” to be critical of the left and that makes this different from when e.g. Nick Fuentes is antisemitic.
