I visited my aunt once and my cousin was there with his boyfriend. My dad said, "That's your cousin's boyfriend." It really is that simple.

I did not anticipate where he'd go with this. And I love where he went.

I'm not bothering with trends anymore. I'm playing with trying to show a bit of character and plot, and major themes between post and graphic text, and indicate major character rep & store options, while making good use of covers/ art/ backgrounds/ contrast. Just playing with key elements for effect

That's my biggest beef with the 'just write 500 words a day' take. I'm like 'Dude, it will take me two hours at least to switch my brain from teaching mode to writing mode, and by then I'll be too tired!' Even to write a single, ideally decent book post -it can be a struggle.

Paid ads seem to be real hit or miss, even when you do courses/ follow books or article guides.
The main issue I see with bsky posts is posts that don't tell us about characters/ plot/ themes/ the book. Browsing book feeds for authors who do it well helped me arrive at this kind of post.

Just finished re-planting succulents originally grown from a single pot plant down the arid side of my driveway. Everything that self-seeded there died, but the first three succulents (middle ones) are doing well, so I'm optimistic.

Also, now is a good time to nurture and watch stuff grow. 🌱

Conversion rates are tough, but I tend to tweak the content of my posts while I try and figure out reach, as that takes time too.

I don't think I'd get tired of seeing people post what they're enjoying about writing their books. Especially in this political climate. I see too few posts like that, from only a few of the many writers I follow on here.

I link some of the main booksky feeds and note which emojis to use to put your posts on them in the 'My Favourite Feeds' section of this blog. There are more book feeds, and you can find them on Bsky in the 'Discover' Feed.

Unless you're not posting the same post, at the same time, every single day, I don't think you need to worry about annoying people. Periodic stuff, and not flogging the same post to death should be fine.

Marketing tends to be the thing I never properly get around to focusing on (exceptions; hosting/ participating in an Itchio book bundle, or tabling a book fair.)

I'm definitely a monotropic thinker type autistic person. On any given day I can teach, OR write my novel, OR brainstorm marketing ideas for already published books, OR write a blog, OR a newsletter, OR something else that requires focus. (Assuming I have spoons on that day.)

That's a magic shield that prevents aerial monster incursions over cities, a hangover from before Monster Containment managed to push back most monsters into the National Park and Wild Zones, when they could potentially into Urban Zones/ the entire continent unchecked.

P.S. I picked up the succulent in the foreground last night, from a neighbour who'd dug it up and left it on their nature strip for someone who wanted it. I love how my neighbourhood does that. Sometimes I'll leave a box of lemons and rosemary sprigs out (both those are prolific in my backyard.)

How long has it taken the Labor Party to consider raising the rate? To halting fossil fuels? To seriously address the racism to First Nations and Muslims?

Politicians crying that they're just "protecting the children" while doing the exact opposite is nothing new, but if this becomes law it could effectively end the careers of some of you favorite queer creators (including mine!)
