To come into effect, the constitutional amendment would need to be formally published or certified by the national archivist, who has declined to do so in the past. What happens now is unclear.
We celebrate President Biden's recognition yesterday that the ERA is the 28th Amendment and should be respected as the law of the land. This is a long-overdue development made possible by decades of organizing of leaders, organizations and activists.
