While I generally agree with you, I think it's truly not relevant to this piece. My spouse and I (along with other family members) are dedicated maskers/testers who've never yet had COVID, and this analysis explains many of the changes we've seen in our own ability to focus over the years.

While that's absolutely true, it has nothing to do with the article, which discusses societal and technological changes over spans of decades, centuries, and even millennia. This piece is a fantastic read -- give it a try.

Do you know why Scarleteen chose to illustrate it with a surgical mask instead of an N-95, KN-95, or similar respirator? The photo is at odds with the text.

That's a wonderful article, but as it says: "you’ll need to use a specifically-rated and well-fitting mask, such as an N95 or P2—cloth masks or surgical masks won’t do this, but are better than nothing."

So why is the article illustrated with a surgical mask?
