There’s something about the miniature gaming genre of video production that doesn’t work. It has beautiful pieces and all the things you’d imagine to make good videos, but then interrupting every bit of action with dice rolling is like 🫠

I like to watch miniature gaming videos across a variety of publishers, and I gotta tell yall having two dudes talk in front of a camera with a book open in the middle really doesn’t work when the video is about learning a game

I also think it's really interesting to use a dicebag with tiles as as a mechanic for players to attain physical rewards directly as part of their game, I haven't seen that before.

This isn’t a defense of One More Day to muddy the subject lol. It just made me realize how sales is never the focus to get buy in from passionate fans. Speaking their language of what they fell in love with is the way to move the needle.

I read this thread on the Spiderman subreddit and realized myself how off putting Joe Quesada was when he was addressing a passionate fan’s disdain for an infamous story with sales, but closed it out perfectly when it was focused on what makes Peter work.

I probably am, but I think the conversation would be a lot more productive focused on how UB builds on top of what makes Magic great rather than a conversation about sales metrics we can’t see.

Instead all I ever see is how it sells well and trust me the data shows that other people like it, trust me trust me you’re the one losing it.

UB would be infinitely more palatable to me if the idea was that Magic’s core identity is that it’s an incredible strategy game and an incredible vehicle to building community, and expanding the universes of Magic helps attract players to build community and extend the bounds of strategy.

One advantage I've heard is that they can help prevent kingmaking, since it helps obfuscate who's winning

what about quests in general? Random pulls from a deck of quests could give different goals & add variety to game sessions
