Good opportunity for a left-ish party in Australia to start talking about a republic. They need something to start a conversation and inject themselves into the discourse. A radical re-imagination of how the country is governed and a break from sex-trafficking elites seems a good place to start.

Even when journalists reference Hanson’s past comments on Muslims, they reach back to 2016. Why not just mention the case from 2025, that is currently in front of the High Court?

Surely the entire media industry isn’t unaware of the case? So what’s the reason?

The federal government has also intervened in a High Court challenge to the judgement which questions its constitutionality. The case is likely being bankrolled by Gina Rinehart. Yet every media outlet has collectively decided none of this is relevant when reporting Hanson, Muslims or hate speech.

What’s the strategy from journalists and editors here? They know about the high profile case, and just don’t think it’s relevant despite the national debate over Muslims and hate speech? Or they don’t know about the high profile case involving the leader of Australia’s second most popular party?

It was a case that found she had denigrated Muslims as well. Very odd it appears in none of the coverage of her remarks, and she has not been asked about it once in various interviews she’s done this week.

Incredible how much the media has spent talking about hate speech laws and yet none of the thousands of articles on Hanson mention she recently was found by a federal court of breaching hate speech laws.

Very rarely do you get Australians to this openly admit how insular their engagement with cricket is. They spend their entire lives denying it, then just post it out.

I think you just don't have any visibility over how media in India/Pak/Sri Lanka, for example, is covering it, or how fans are reacting. That's fine, but don't double down and pretend like you do.

It's an afterthought nowhere but in Australia, because of the insularity described above. It's breaking ratings records in India and is the biggest cultural talking point in the world in South Asia. There's a world beyond this tiny country.
