The pipeline from "this makes me uncomfy" to "this is not allowed to exist" is dangerous and REAL. There is value in sitting with discomfort and confronting/unpacking your own biases. People are so afraid of their own "icky" feelings that they would destroy art and other people to remain "safe."

She could work helping children without leaving the planet. It is a fight for a knife in the mud," she says, a quote from Succession. Image of T'Pel contemplating how miserable Tuvok is, wondering how to fix it. Then she has an idea! Get him a new baby! In her imagination he looks serene with a infant in his arms. Tuvok in uniform after going back to work. He looks haggard and like he just stopped crying. Lyrics from Adrianne Lenker's 'Anything' are put to a comic. "I don't wanna talk about anything. I don't wanna talk about anything." Tuvok looking haggard and staring into space. "I wanna kiss kiss your eyes again." Tuvok cupping a child Elieth's face as he sniffles, comforting him. "I wanna witness your eyes looking." An at home shrine in memory of Elieth. His eyes are not visible. His picture is almost hidden behind candles, flowers, and jewelry.

T'Pel contemplating shoving a new baby into Tuvok's arms to calm him down/comfort him after the recent death of their son is so 1900s Businessman with a "hysteric" wife that it becomes iconic of her. She's a childcare expert in this book & good at it so this callousness is v interesting to me!

According to every indication, Tuvok was in splendid physical shape for a Vulcan of his age. "As I told you," Tuvok said, pulling his shirt back on. "This examination was unnecessary." "Then how do you explain your unusually emotional responses?" the doctor countered. "When was the last time you complimented another crewman's clothing?" "About five point two minutes ago." "And the time before that?" Tuvok seemed to plunge deep into thought. He did not answer. Kes too tried to recall the last time she'd heard him compliment someone...and found she couldn't. She'd assumed it wasn't in his nature until now. "I cannot recall another instance," Tuvok finally admitted. "Exactly my point!" the doctor went on. "It's atypical behvaior, which indicates something wrong. We have eliminated physical problems. That leaves a mental one."

Imagine being such a hard-ass that you complimenting someone offhandedly is grounds to receive medical attention. Iconic.

Excerpt from the transcript of 'Gravity' (a Star Trek Voyager episode) wherein Tom says "I think you do. You work hard to bury them, but they're there. And even if they're not, this is home now. You might as well accept it and try to find as much happiness as you can. Listen, you have a chance to make a decent life for yourself here." We see in his thought bubble as he berates Tuvok that Tom is thinking of Tuvok kissing and having a baby with Noss (as well as looking at Noss' boobs) Tuvok, ostensibly ignoring him, thinks: "I HAVE to transition." Later, we see Janeway standing triumphantly. She says: "It's been a long few weeks, Harry. But it'll be worth it to finally have our crew back with us..." She tells Harry to energize and Harry eagerly replies "Aye, Captain!" In the background we see Neelix exclaim "I can't wait!" Three figures transport up. Noss, Tuvok, and Tom. Tuvok (a woman) is obviously several years into her transition. Neither Tom nor Tuvok is in a Starfleet uniform. Janeway, Harry, and Neelix are all surprised by this. Then Neelix, without hesitation, says "Hello Ms. Vulcan!!" Harry, in a flustered silence, stares at the two pretty women now in front of him. Janeway glances towards them both, warmed and amused by their reactions.

Watched Gravity...Just once Star Trek needs to use a temporal distortion planet (short time on the ship is a longer time on the planet) as an excuse to have someone go down one gender and come back another one. They spent like four years figuring it out down there but on the ship it was four days.

My final note on this ep is to recommend everyone listen to the Tuvok-Suder near murder scene without looking at what's happening on screen. Especially the noise Tuvok makes as he pushes Suder away. -yakko voice- G'night everybody!

Tuvok & Janeway's friendship is so underrated/explored. He seems so devastated by what he said to her and she's trying at every turn to tell him it's alright, he doesn't have to say any more. (bc he's Vulcan!)

Also "no more mind melds without my permission" is kindaaaaa 👀is anyone else...???

This ep almost ending in Tuvok killing Suder with his mind & then presumably killing himself (in tandem?) with Suder grinning up to the heavens as Tuvok stares down in horror at what his own hands nearly did is insane. Instead the scene ends with Suder cradling an unconscious Tuvok in his arms<3

It makes me wonder if the year on Vulcan post marriage has to do with the bond. Like...a levelling out process. Suder and Tuvok's bond isn't constant and isn't trying to be an equal sharing of lives whereas a marriage bond seems to be, ideally.

Made a tumblr post about how the thing between Suder & Tuvok might be more akin to a marriage bond than a one off meld and I find the implications of that fascinating when we see how interests, personalities, manner of speech and walking/standing, all change! Vulcan marriage...how you fascinate me.

A pet peeve of mine is when people portray Tuvok's violence in 'Meld' as some sort of hidden desire/side of him. To me it's obviously a parallel to Suder suddenly acting calm and Vulcan-like. They both give something to the other that wasn't there previously. Even the way they speak changes!

"So it ultimately turned out to be a worthwhile and enlightening experience" - me after the most ill-advised hookup in the universe that I know my friend would've warned me about so I didn't tell her even though she's the captain (and I'm her special darling so she isn't mad at me even a little)

(generalized) You like the scene where Tuvok strangles holo Neelix to death bc you hate Neelix (mind numbingly played out) whereas I, enlightened being I am, like it for secret and enchanting pervert reasons.

Sorry. The shot of Suder where he's chuckling and says "I wish I could help you, lieutenant." and we see Tuvok clasp his hands in front of his ass before responding "You can" .... queer cinema.

Also imagine being Ayala and just silently lowering the force field with 0 pushback. Sure thing boss.

The way he's just sitting there smiling when Tuvok comes right back in...Imagine you murder a man in cold blood and your reward is to have mind sex with Tuvok so hard you both develop aspects of the other's personality. Got him mind pregnant with your violent tendencies <3

When Tuvok's like "So this could be explained as an outburst of aggression against Starfleet" and Suder smiles/chuckles lightly....oh...you know Lon thinks he's kinda cute there.

I honestly wish Tom was in the episode less so they could have developed Noss and Tuvok more. I really did like what I saw there's just so little of it not offscreen! Like when Tuvok rushed to help her with the dishes....<3
