When RFK Jr said in public that "its all on the mothers" to make the decisions re vaccines, that made a chill run up my spine. Abdicating all responsibility for careful sensitive public health comms and research and blaming mothers all over again.

(Falcon and Winter Soldier was solid for like...85% of it, and the remaining 15% was where you can tell executives were meddling with what HAD to be. I knew they couldn't land the politics going on with Disney at the helm but ohhhhhh did they whiff it.)

That said...Sooooooo many resources assume all you care about is getting hired, and efficiency. And want your money to maybe get you closer.

That's a good point, and it's interesting coming at the culture and scene as someone who, well, needs something that pays more but genuinely *gets* the beauty of the puzzle solving. I think it's cool to put these pieces together to create something new, and helpful.

I think the biggest damage to the art community was the obsolescence of gallery sites (y!, deviantart, etc) and the rise of scroll-by social media, like twitter and even tumblr. Art is not ''content'', you shouldnt need to post art every day (or every month!) to be relevant. This mindset sucks.

I say that because, well, "trust doctors" sounds reasonable until you've dealt with all sorts of ways that statement just doesn't work. And each time you're failed by the medical system, it's that much harder to actually believe what's being told to you.

I do agree with what you're saying, and tbh it seems a fair number of people have never had a doctor claim they're lying about health issues, or had one suggest things like "dark honey" for...a fever caused by tooth infection.

You know what's funny? People always accuse scientists of being disconnected from reality, caring only about their science.
They have no idea how much empathy and understanding of the broader picture is required for good Public Health work.

So you get stuff like this...

You get absolutely nowhere if you just say "everyone who distrusts vaccines are just evil people." If you are incapable of seeing this, then I dont know what to say. Blame actual anti-vaxxers like RFK Jr, wellness influencers making billions etc, and social media companies.

...that is vaccine hesitancy. And it is not useful either to shame those communities/parents for their doubts. If you work in public health, you have to operate from the stance of wanting to change those minds, working with the communities, acknowledging historical traumas, etc.../

It is useful, and prudent, to make a distinction between vaccine hesitancy and vaccine resistance. For example, there are many reasons why certain racialized and minoritized communities might hold onto questions about vaccines because of their histories with the state and colonization.../

There's a lot of misinformation out there but I swear one of the worst factors in how it spreads? The inability to grasp nuances beyond binaries.

Thus yeah, of COURSE there's going to be questions, and hesitency to jab this fragile bundle of life with needles.

ANd if all the people who are insisting vaccines are good are also insisting you're evil for having legitimate questions...Oh gee, YOU'RE NOT GOING TO SIDE WITH THEM.
