Leamy Lake Park contains the largest complex of pre-contact archaeological sites in the Ottawa River drainage basin. Used continuously for more than 6,000 years by Indigenous groups, the main occupation dates back 1,000 to 2,000 years ago.

The shift from lumber town to Capital has taken changes in thinking and a lot of work.

Two ideas that helped beautify our region were:

🌳 Creating parks and scenic parkways
🚂 Moving railway lines and rail yards

Prime Minister Laurier famously called Ottawa “not a handsome city.”

When sawmills and factories lined the river, smoke blanketed the skyline, and railway lines cut through downtown and divided neighbourhoods, there wasn’t room for the green spaces and amenities we enjoy today.

Starting tomorrow, extended lifeguard hours begin at the NCC River House.

✅ Until September 1, lifeguards will be on duty daily from 7:30 am –7:30 pm.

📆 Swimming remains allowed daily from 7:30 am to sunset.

The crow invited us to reflect on how we impact our environment and the creatures that share our spaces.

Its departure is a reminder to reflect on how we move, and what we leave behind.

After two years along the LeBreton Flats pathway, the Capital’s favourite crow is taking off to its next perch.

The east wharf platform will feature:

✅ A renovated multi-use pathway
🛶 Access to non-motorized boats
🌊 Enhanced shoreline protection
🌱 More plants
🧘 Seating options
🚲 Bicycle racks

Construction is scheduled to finish this fall.

Another day, another shoreline project underway!

We’re building a recreational platform on the Ottawa River near the Rideau Canal locks.

You’ll be able to relax on a multi-level wooden platform by the water and enjoy sunset views of the river.

🌅 Kìwekì Point (means "returning to one’s homeland")
📍 Behind the National Gallery of Canada, Ottawa

🌿 Pīndigen Park (means "Come on in! All are welcome here!")
📍 Wellington and Booth, Ottawa

Today is National Indigenous Peoples Day. ☀

Designed with input from the Algonquin Nation, these three parks are ideal places to celebrate one of the longest days of the year and reflect on the cultures and contributions of First Nations, Inuit, and Métis.
