It’s my understanding that Ape Escape is still a fairly recognizable and appreciated IP in Japan. I hope we get more of it!

I’ve speculated that previous execs were purposely stifling Japanese teams to chase the western audience so I’m also hoping that changes with the new regime

Thankfully all of them are playable on PS5, but I wouldn’t say no to a new game either if ASOBI or someone wanted to make it

It was funny and entertaining.

Movie snobs forget that not everyone goes to a Deadpool movie expecting the highest form of art.

Oh no hostilities taken haha, this isn’t Twitter so I don’t immediately assume malice when people reply to me.

If anything I feel like I’M the one speaking a little too harshly for some to agree with haha

I do genuinely think we just don’t need anymore online only live service multiplayer games. Their audience for those is finite and already taken. You have some pull for sure, if you do something REALLY unique, but even those don’t last among the giants forever.

I agree. It’s part of the problem for sure. I don’t revel in anyone’s failure, but the sooner these people just stop trying to make games like this the better. They’re just gonna keep failing until studios start making games people want.

The head of the company has already talked about this in interviews. They specifically left respawn and went indie so that they could have the flexibility to make their dream game without corporate interference. This was the vision that caused numerous people to leave EA and start this studio.

It’s just reality. It’s one of the most competitive and over saturated industries. They put out an unprofitable and unsuccessful product. It doesn’t make me happy, but idk what anyone working on this game expected.

Indie devs fail and layoff staff all the time If they’re not making money. So many closed indie studios after launching a flop game.

12.02.2026 14:58 — 👍 1    🔁 0    💬 1    📌 0

You gotta know the market. This is not what the market wanted. If they wanted to make a fun passion project that made no money, they can do that. But that’s not the goal with these games. They gotta make money, and choosing to spend their time and money making this and it did not work

12.02.2026 04:06 — 👍 0    🔁 0    💬 0    📌 1

This is the important point. Yes, the game is not profitable, sure they have a small small small small playerbase, but most of them aren’t spending any money and this game took 6 years to make. They needed to just not make this game in the first place. I have no idea why they did.

12.02.2026 02:52 — 👍 1    🔁 0    💬 1    📌 0

They chose to leave EA to form this indie studio and make this game.

12.02.2026 01:49 — 👍 6    🔁 0    💬 1    📌 0

2,000 players is not a lot, especially when the game is free so none of those players are actually generating income.

This is why the free to play online only business model is bad and people should stop doing it (especially in a crowded market with tons of competition better than you)

12.02.2026 01:47 — 👍 0    🔁 0    💬 1    📌 0

Bro they left EA to willingly and purposefully go make Highguard. I’m not going to infantilize them. If they were still at EA, sure I could blame corporate meddling or whatever else, but nah they left to form an indie studio and this is the product they made. It not making money isn’t EA’s fault.

12.02.2026 01:46 — 👍 0    🔁 0    💬 1    📌 0

The game was always going to launch in January. The devs confirmed this, it was just going to shadow drop. Instead they got 170m people to see their trailer for free.

The issue is the game isn’t what anyone wanted and wasn’t ready for a January launch even if it was wanted.

Wildlight is an indie dev. Everyone there was there because they specifically wanted to make Highguard.

This has nothing to do with corporate meddling, these guys left EA because they wanted the freedom to make what they want (ie, this)
