Something to watch from Your Local Epidemiologist, NY edition. New measles cases in Rockland County. Like Spartanburg County SC and Gaines County TX before it, this is a BAD place to seed a measles outbreak. Many pockets of low low vax rates.

In SC only about 20% of schools are private. Yet, twice as many private schools as public schools have fewer than 80% of students fully vaccinated. In fact, 22% of private schools in SC have fewer than 80% of kids fully vaccinated. The corresponding number of public schools is 2%. 2/2

A family member passed away in Jan ‘21 in CT. they held both calling hours & a funeral mass. They held a memorial gathering the following summer but I’m pretty sure that was by choice, not by restriction.

The problem is the red blue clustering you mention. It only takes a couple schools or religious communities with a very low vax rate to set off a TX or SC sized outbreak in a populated county with say a 90% vax rate. I think we are going to see that play out again in FL w/ Ava Maria U.

Economics has a long history of sexism, and it’s not getting better. It’s a problem for women in the profession and for all of us.

Up 114 measles cases in FL, 83 in Collier County-home to the Ava Maria U outbreak. Don’t forget, in AMU’s census track 10% of kids have a vaccine religious exemption. Spartanburg County, SC had 8% of students with a religious exemption. I fear this Collier County outbreak is just getting started.

And, of course, when the courts finally rule he has to issue a refund, all the money will go to corporations who have no way to know, and you and I have no way to prove, how much money we (consumers) actually paid. Effectively, corporations got to raise prices and your money and mine is gone.
