Now... how about IMLS funding for libraries and museums? Libraries are often the backbone of small towns and rural communities ~ lots of people are going to be hurt by IMLS being shut down.

And it's #NEH, #IMLS, and #NEA - three agencies that constituted a portion of the federal budget small than a pencil nib - that brought these things to the people of all 50 states and jurisdictions in the United States.

The #arts and #humanities are the stuff of true resilience.

Access to a library is one of the best predictors of good childhood literacy outcomes ~ and childhood literacy is a good predictor of later school/life success.

IMLS funding does an amazing amount of good with a very small budget.

I'm not optimistic that this will end the way it should, with IMLS fully funded for FY2026 but it's better than the opposite ruling would have been.

When she taught future teachers, she tried to make sure they ended up with the same attitude about making reading fun/interesting.
Me? I was the kid who got so many summer reading rewards one year that the program had limits on how much a kid could win the following year. 😁
Also me: now a librarian.

My mother, a college English professor, thought one of the worst things that happened to children who struggled with reading was being put in classes where all they did was worksheets that drilled them on specific skills ~ no reading for fun at whatever level the students could manage.

The cuts to NEH, NEA, IMLS... such tiny parts of the federal budget but so much joy generated.

I oppose the Trump Admin’s efforts to ban books, eliminate the Institute of Museum and Library Services (IMLS), & slash funding for public libraries that would cut services.

Maine State Library lays off 13 workers, will restructure after losing federal funds The library last received funds from the Institute of Museum and Library Services on March 24 and has not gotten any updates on when — or whether — payments may resume.

Due to the destruction of IMLS, the Maine State Library just laid off 13 employees and will be restructuring.

The dominos are all going to fall very fast, folks.
