It’s been a while since there’s been a good, ol’ fashioned UI debate. It’s interesting to have been around long enough to see the trend carousel rotate a few times. This flavour of glass skeuomorphism (nice to bring that phrase out of the cupboard) seems particularly prone to being unreadable.

I’ve just had my first eye test in about 40(!) years.

I have ‘excellent’ long distance vision and just need the standard age thing of some reading help.

So, it turns out spending your entire life looking at a glowing screen does NOT give you square eyes or, indeed, ‘send you gozz eyed’.

The new flood warning system is near it's beta phase. It's a tricky one to do.

Flooding doesn't happen to schedule, and sending out test warnings in real situations is not optimal.

The team are recruiting the next phase of testing and need as many people as possible to help.

I really don’t like this startup talk. Nearly all burn through cash and people before failing spectacularly. The ones that are ‘successful’ stop being startups and quickly become just another organisation with lots of technical and organisational debt.

I hope they all had a good evening after the show, and ended up in the right Grapes.

It was the first stop of their Northern tour. Gap years and horse riding are relevant to their music … but not so much to northern crowds and between song chats. We bought a 7” and got it signed after the show. My daughter was made up.

About 120 ish people in for the main act - Welly. The Arts Club room was about a third full. They put on a proper performance. Full of energy that was never quite matched by the crowd. Good fun though. They have a set of 5 strong songs that deserve bigger, rowdier crowds. That might come.

Last night’s gig was good. I can’t remember the last time I went to something that feels small but very much on the way up. Three support acts felt a bit much. SheFu being the pick of the bunch, they were having a whale of a time. Bands are making me feel super old.

Excellent work. Something I very much aspire to. Which of the 347 fool proof* methods do you use?

*I have seemingly yet to make it to fool levels.

Second gig with my 15 year old daughter tonight. This one is totally her choice. A band called Welly that I know very little about. They’re in that talky, story driven Art Brut/Yard Act (who we saw a couple of weeks) ball park. Quite looking forward to it.

I can’t do that post-the-first-gif-for-your-name thing due to contractural reasons.

Ok, Man United related reasons.

And he can’t even spell it properly.
