Pretty much! It's wild how powerful his films were coming out of the gates.

Exactly! And a link between what is referred to as 'toxic masculinity' and its relation with vehicles.
Amazing stuff considering how Spielberg's career is so widespread.
It is probably fun as a kind because of all the vehicle crashing.
And as an adult, the injustice and violence of it hits home more, I think.
Trucks are scary! There's a lot about vehicles that I think make for effective horror. See The Car, Christine, and so on.

Its amazing. Really sticks with you, and holds up better than later Spielberg, I think.
When he hits, its all home runs.
Whenever I feel ill, I get more... philosophical.
I'm sure its good health to deal with your problems through films.

Reminds me in the writings of Theodor Adorno, who wrote on the inherit violence and facism with vehicles.
Something I reflect on. Here's some reading for you, who like the philosophy.
A world of violence, informed by Castle docterine, and a root in very American evil.
It does make me want to check out more of his westerns. Westerns often have a lot accidental commentary on masculinity like Duel does on purpose.

#nowwatching Duel (1971)
Yeah, early Spielberg rules. 'Jaws' with a truck is thrown around a lot (deservedly so) but this film is a lot more than that.
And to have the truck and its dricer be such a brutal force... Love it.
A film on masculinity, on violence inherit in vehicles. Machete's up. ๐ช๐ช๐ช
"Not Gay. Not Straight. A New Sexual Identity Emerges" is worded like the tagline for a David Cronenberg body horror science fiction film. ๐

I mean, Reagan, Nixon, Coolidge, Harding.
A fine history of the worst people of their era lol.
We really hit peak awful tho lol
Oh, I love Nic Cage. Some of my favorite nonsense and occasionally very serious acting. Also he's Fancis Ford Coppola's nephew?!
(Prec post deleted cause got confused with a Donald Pleasence post lol)
Hell yeah, let's go!

N.J. is right, the national treasure in National Treasure is Nicholas Cage.
(Love the podcast on Longlegs, and in general lol)
Everything but New York, apparently.

Sharing this because I love this movie. And no other reason.
Nope, no reason whatsoever.
Back after a migraine hiatus. Oh, man, what a horrible way to spend the weekend.
Ah, well. Can't keep a good monster down.
