You’re probably right about the cause though, looks like a brittle fracture caused by inclusions or residual stresses.
Agreed. And this was probably no easy decision. I hope he can sleep well knowing he spared his family from seeing a loved one forget every precious memory, gradually starve, and lose every basic motor function until they can’t breathe.
