Sending sympathy and solidarity. It’s all rubbish. I ended up having toast for tea as had no energy left for anyway else. I hope it’s better tomorrow and you can be kind to yourself ❤️‍🩹

Extreme fatigue is spending hours on an application, only to be unable to complete the final bits and submit because your head is a blizzard

Thank you

The intense shame of having to list myself as ‘Independent Scholar’ exacerbated by systems that won’t accept that label, and are only interested in your affiliation

Happy #WorldBookDay!
Today I shall be reading an advance proof for a review, finishing some informal book reviews, (brief interlude to teach on American Revolution), working on some short stories, & deciding if I stick or skip the book I started reading that I’m not sure about

I only dressed up twice for World Book Day as a child, but they represent the poles of my personality perfectly…
Mary Poppins and….Eeyore

I finished it the other night - it really lives up to the hype! Incredible

Every night someone comes and puts superglue on my shoes, so that every time I try to take a step forward I’m pulled back

Could that new body be mine, it’s got lots to say!

Urgh, struck by the painful reality that without a job I can’t move. I can’t afford where I’m living, I don’t like where I’m living anymore, but renting is so competitive that I can’t be an attractive candidate (even w guarantor)
& the nose that was cauterised in August has just started bleeding 😩

It’s so long since I read it, really must revisit it

Booooooo!

Why must it be, on so many trains, that if you want to sit in a row of 2, rather than take up a table for 4, on your own, you can’t have a window?!!

It totally upends the Christian idea of an afterlife as relief, peaceful, free from pain. No longer a comfort at the end of a tough life. Very disturbing

My god, what a story. I’ve been thinking a lot lately about the “function” and “meaning” of an afterlife in the everyday (very different context to this example) but this puts a different slant on all of that

Sometimes it’s useful to search your own name in a library catalogue, because you find out you’ve published a co-authored paper that was just published but no one told you, and it could be very useful for a forthcoming job application

I’d momentarily forgotten how many career changes there had been 🤣

Oooof no one is as chaos incarnate as Owen Hunt!

There is a hell of a lot going on in Call the Midwife at the moment

I’m quite obsessed with Piggy - he’s sensational!

I really hate how my fatigue etc makes me yawn so much. I look so rude, bored by people, or irresponsible, not going to bed at a sensible time. The yawns are so strong that my eyes have to close, which means I miss so much!

I’m British, I have never seen General Hospital

01.03.2026 13:18 — 👍 1    🔁 0    💬 1    📌 0

That’s such a weird generalisation.

Why must so many US sitcoms include a “British” (English, RP accent) character. Is it just to mock? It’s lazy writing

And remember they have a huge surplus, so it really is just greed and cruelty at this point

Have you watched How to Get To Heaven from Belfast? Loads of GA on the soundtrack

This is not an exaggeration, but I’ve applied to so many jobs, written so many job materials that my laptop has run out of disc space 😣

Some very recent shows I’ve enjoyed

Small Prophets (BBC)
Gentle but doesn’t shy from tough topics of loneliness. Pacing at times feels odd, but that didn’t detract from the heartfelt poignancy. So much beauty in the mundane & the magical.

Ongoing series I continue to love:
Shrinking (Apple)
High Potential (Disney+)
Call the Midwife (BBC)
