Currently enjoying dinner in our neighborhood with two cocktails called “Chinga la Migra” and “Bad Hombre.” We previously tried the “Abolish ICE.” And they’re super delicious cocktails, too.

Today @rmcgibbo.bsky.social and I accidentally reenacted the cheese scene from Schitt’s Creek when making a cabbage dish from the NYTimes.

ICYMI: We @propublica.org set up a tracker for immigration-related habeas cases, which means it tracks the number of suits filed by immigrants claiming they are detained illegally. The number has hit historic highs. We'll update it regularly with new data. projects.propublica.org/habeas-track...

Habeas corpus actions are the ancient common law writ used to create a legal action to sue for freedom. They were crucial in the early-nineteenth-century efforts to challenge slavery.
This graph showing “habeas cases” suddenly leaping in 2025 —

I lied, I have a 3/3.
Regardless of this judge’s usual style (which I didn’t know when I saw the first screenshot), I think the outrage coming through is real. I believe it’s important for courts to tell the public they see what’s going on, too. No comment on the merits, but may Liam come home.
Then I found the link and realized the opinion (i) analytically is… not the best, and (ii) contains biblical cites. As a lifelong fan of separation of church and state, I immediately thought “yikes.” But I’m not the audience. And the opinion says loud and clear that these are not normal times.

I amplified because my jaw dropped at the outrage and denial of the presumption of regularity coming through. That was the instantaneous takeaway for me. 1/2

From the court's order granting habeas corpus for the 5 year old & his father:
"Observing human behavior confirms that for some among us,the perfidious lust for unbridled power and the imposition of cruelty in its quest know no bounds and are bereft of human decency. And the rule of law be damned."
Only if you’re related by blood! Otherwise it still doesn’t count, we heard.

My green card is awaiting removal of conditions, with naturalization pending, and I was just debating (arguing) with my husband the benefits of carrying my original extension notice as opposed to a photocopy on my person at all times.
Yep.
I wrote this song on Saturday, recorded it yesterday and released it to you today in response to the state terror being visited on the city of Minneapolis. It’s dedicated to the people of Minneapolis, our innocent immigrant neighbors and in memory of Alex Pretti and Renee Good.

“Attached to this order is an appendix that identifies 96 court orders that ICE has violated in 74 cases. … ICE has likely violated more court orders in January 2026 than some federal agencies have violated in their entire existence.”
