Ignoring international law when it suits your interests only makes it more likely other countries will do the same when it suits theirs.

The city is never going to let this happen and open themselves up to the potential legal liability.

I'm not sure this is much different than any other social media site, other than being more explicit. They've collected your info because you provided it on your profile or in a post. And if your feed is subject to a subpoena, they will comply.
