Finishing things is such underrated writing advice. You need to learn your habits and what tools you use not just to have an idea or start a story, but to finish them. You need to get used to it, and then observe how you can do it better. That starts by finishing stories at all.

A great author will make me feel whatever they want me to feel about a character! Which is ideal - I want to love (love to hate, whatever) all of them. Some character types just take a LOT more skill to convince me to get on board. Quirky is usually less endearing and more annoying.

I like both depending on my mood but in the wrong hands, either one becomes insufferable REALLY fast. Quirky probably wracks up the most casualties, though.

Sometimes you meet a character that you're pretty sure the author intends to be charming and quirky and relatable but they're actually intolerably irritating and the thought of spending 300+ pages in their company is like nails on a chalkboard and you have to throw the book across the room.
