Nuclear weapons are really just a radioactive teddy bear for leaders to cuddle when things feel scary.

Nuclear deterrence is inherently illogical. And any country is going to be worse off after using nuclear weapons than before and therefore it doesn’t make sense to use them and our opponents know this and therefore they don’t really deter that much and are pretty much obsolete and just symbolic.

The comments are so silly. basically 100 versions of “Russia knows we have nukes too!”. It’s fascinating how people just know that Russias nuclear threats won’t work but are convinced that US threats would. If Russias threats are a bluff, the US’s threats are a bluff too, you can’t have it both ways

For any UN or diplomacy nerds, this is fascinating about how the UNEP secretariat undermined the chair and tried to encourage NGOs to get him replaced, maybe because the text was too strong for Saudi Arabia and other oil producing countries?? Cream it!

Palace intrigues The plastics treaty talks in Geneva ended without a deal. As negotiators weigh their options about the way forward, troubling questions are…

💣 An excellent analysis of the #PlasticsTreaty 's Whistledown (aka @magnuslovold.bsky.social) of what happened behind the scenes at the end of #INC5.2. Once again, important questions are raised about the role of UNEP, which seems to support a low-ambition treaty #Plastics

Right now, Latvia, Lithuania, Estonia, Poland and Finland are in the process of withdrawing from the Mine Ban Treaty. These withdrawals mean more tragedies will inevitably follow. Landmines don’t protect. They kill your own civilians, and they mainly kill children.

He was just living a normal life, long long after a war. And this isn’t an isolated tragedy, this happens over and over again around the world where landmines have been used. Every time landmines are used, civilians will pay the price for decades ahead. People not even born yet.

This weekend in Bosnia, 19 year old Mehmed was killed by a 30 year old landmine. He was tending to his family’s goats, which had wandered into a mined forest. Mehmed wasn’t a soldier. The war ended 30 years ago, 11 years before Mehmed was even born. n1info.ba/english/news...

We’re looking to fund short-term projects that can help reduce reliance on and support for nuclear deterrence policies. Grants are between 10-35k CHF and we aim to support new writing, impactful meetings, captivating content creation, etc. No long applications or complicated reporting!!

(Obviously, football today is absolutely a capitalistic entertainment product & it’s getting worse & worse by the year but that’s why complaining that serie a, that is at least a bit less “product” than premier league is not catering enough to random Americans is so provoking)

I’ve said it as a joke before but now I’m 100% serious, Americans should stop appropriating our culture and leave football alone

SERIE A IS NOT FOR YOU! It’s for italian cities and their people. Not for random Americans picking a team for fun. Football is not an entertainment product, it’s a culture. Of course you can be a fan anyway, but these clubs are not made for you. Enjoy it but you’re not the center

I saw a TikTok with an American complaining that Serie A wasn’t promoting its “product” to tv viewers like him enough, that their marketing & stadiums are not attractive for a US tv audience that might want to become fans and I’ve never been more provoked in my entire life.

Last week, Marseille joined ICAN Cities Appeal. The city supports the #TPNW and calls on France to join it. The French government is one of the most stubborn opponents of the TPNW, yet the 3 largest cities Paris, Marseille and Lyon (and 95 others) supports it. Allez!!

Eleven-minute race for food: how aid points in Gaza became ‘death traps’ – a visual story Hundreds of people have died while seeking food since delivery was taken over by the Gaza Humanitarian Foundation in May. But Palestinians facing extreme hunger have no choice but to take the risk

The Gaza Humanitarian Foundation is a Frankenstein's Monster of corporate consultants, the Israeli government and for-profit mercenary companies.

It is not a bona fide aid organization, but another tool of Israel's effort to forcibly displace the people of Gaza.

The Israeli and US missions “rising lion” and “midnight hammer” are not only illegal actions, they also do not slow the Iranian program nearly as much as the JCPOA deal did. Diplomacy is both legal option and achieves better results than bombing.

Bombing Iran is illegal under international law, and anyone who isn’t condemning the US and Israeli attacks on Iran are contributing to a more unsafe and unstable world.

You can dislike the Iranian government and think it’s a terrible regime, I do, but you still are not allowed to bomb them. Many countries think Trump is a terrible and dangerous leader & US is a threat to international peace & security, it doesn’t mean it’s ok to bomb them!

Also, just as a reminder, which country has an illegal and secret nuclear weapons programme? Israel! And who has a war criminal as prime minister? Israel! Which country is committing mass violations of human rights, war crimes, ethnic cleansing, and possibly genocide? Israel!
