Unless it's "revolutionary and shakes up the entire industry" level, it's probably not as likely to influence a kids' anime as some really old thing from before this generation was even born would be.

I know it's an understandable pitfall, but since Western Digimon fans often see it in a general monolith of "anime IPs", I notice people tend to assume that all of otaku culture applies to it when in reality a lot of people involved on kids' IPs are veterans who are often detached from newer stuff

If we're to assume Cyberpunk is involved, that would be a rather deep cut by the Japanese media climate, and I would be conversely impressed. Western games influencing Japanese media is hardly unheard of, but maybe consider that what's "blatantly obvious" doesn't apply everywhere?

If you're going to accuse it of this, Our War Game! and Summer Wars are like the *lowest* hanging fruit, but no, we're going to ignore the entirety of Japanese science fiction in favor of two Western IPs, one of which has virtually no clout in Japanese media culture?
