The CDC also presented this slide about a baby who wasn't vaccinated against hep B until age 2.5 months. The baby died of an overwhelming infection at 3 months. #ACIP

ACIP mtg re: at-birth Hep B vaccine "The questions is: is there some benefit or removal of harm that comes from waiting 1 month? and I have not seen any data that says there is any benefit to the infant of waiting a month but there are a number of potential harms to the infant in waiting a month".

The non-expert ACIP members decide there is no problem in testing mothers for hepatitis B and that any lack of information can be fixed in the hospital.

These people don't seem to have much knowledge of how birth or hospitals work in the U.S. or Hep B.

Really, this is painful.

#ACIP is considering eliminating birth dose of hepatitis B. Some members ask why not just vaccinate people at high risk? CDC tried that strategy before and it failed. What is helping eliminate the disease is universal birth vaccination.

I don’t know if these ACIP members are being intentionally obtuse or if they really are that ignorant.

None of the new appointees to the CDC vaccine panel have expertise in vaccines. The only difference between these people and Caligula’s horse is that the horse wasn’t an antivaxxer.

@jakescottmd.bsky.social is not at the ACIP meeting. But he told me that the purpose of ACIP's discussion today -- rehashing a vaccine safety issue that was settled years ago -- seems to be to just create doubts about vaccine safety. Discussion isn't adding anything new here, he said.

Today's ACIP meeting is so important. Their recommendations decide who gets access to vaccines, when, and how easily in America. Removing science from this decision will inevitably cost lives.

"So the parent's choice is taken away" They are voting to remove a parent's choice to opt for a combined vaccine & only offering coverage for the MMR then a 2nd shot for varicella. So parents that want LESS injections per visit now have no choice but to have more. But personal choice, ammi right?🙄

This point was made incredibly clear: There are ways to address vaccine concerns so there still is coverage under VFC, but this one being voted on would mean VFC would not cover it even if a parent wanted it.

Vaccines for Children program provides free vaccines to American children. In 2021, 52.2% of US children were VFC-eligible. The ACIP will vote on a change to the schedule that would remove a recommendation for the combined MMRV vaccine, meaning it would not be covered by VFC for use in children.

The CDC has publicly discussed the differences between MMR and MMRV on their website. They were open and pretty nuanced about this.

These people aren't listening to ACTUAL doctors that spend time with patients and know how proposed changes will hurt Americans. We're so F$#%d with this ACIP panel.

4% of children experience a febrile seizure in childhood, often because of viruses. 1 in 25. Even then they are mostly nonserious.

The risk from MMRV is less than 1 in 1000.

A panel full of vaccines Skeptics just recommended that we remove choice from parents and not allow them to opt for a combined vaccine that would result in less injections overall. These are the same people that are shouting for parental choice that are talking about removing it.
