@jeffnoon.bsky.social called it "A brilliant exploration of technologyβs strange new borderlands." And that guy knows genre-blending creepiness! (Vurt, anyone?)

I imagined a disembodied set of eyes on me as I carried the dripping garbage sack across the parking lot. After tossing it into the apartment dumpster, I turned to see a raccoon in my path, standing on its hind legs. It nibbled on something it held in its tiny hands: a human ear.

I've always been worried about encountering wildcats in the woods, but in a horror story, it would actually be terrifying to notice a chimp staring at you and just casually following you. It would seem cool at first until you remember they can be absolute monsters.

I've really enjoyed @sgj.bsky.social's use of elk and @stephenking.bsky.social's use of spiders, but I'll have to go fully cosmic horror and say some form of jellyfish. It's disgusting and scary and beautiful and utterly unknowable psychologically.

I write weird fiction and dreampunk mostly. My work doesn't usually fit neatly into the Horror section, but there's a certain level of existential horror that's pretty much always present.
I tend to write about the deep, dark, spooky woods, which is where I played as a kid.

The main cast of The Flintstones lined up smiling: Dino, Pebbles, Wilma, Fred, Barney, Betty, and Bam-Bam.
"Interbreeding between Neanderthals and ancient anatomically modern humans primarily occurred between male Neanderthals and female humans, a new study suggests."
The Flintstones actually got this right! π³

The second and third richest men control Google.
The fourth richest man owns Facebook, Instagram, and WhatsApp.
The fifth richest man owns The Washington Post.
And now the sixth richest could soon take over both Paramount and Warner Bros.

A graphic that compares the logo for AI product Claude with Kurt Vonnegut's depiction of an asshole from Breakfast of Champions. They are very similar.
I can't be the first to notice that the Claude logo looks exactly how Vonnegut drew an asshole for Breakfast of Champions. This is either intetional or an accident. Either way a good argument for hiring humanities majors.

01.03.2026 22:01 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Hm, taxes didn't really enter into it for me because I wasn't making that much. It wasn't even that expensive where we lived in Japan. Basically, I needed to get a different kind of job that would pay me enough to cover my debts from college (loans and credit). So I eventually went back to coding. π€·ββοΈ

I have only one episode left of Search Party on Netflix. It's been a wild ride with each season somehow better than the last.
Every time there's tension because something bad could possibly happen, it pretty much always does happen. How the hell are they going to wrap this mess up?! π€―

01.03.2026 04:49 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Do you think the elections in Russia have been legitimate too? If you'd look into this at all you'd see what I'm talking about. Trump primed the pump with all his baseless election denial nonsense so that we'd all close our eyes to his obvious fraud. Putin's playbook.

Whoever didn't show up to vote for Harris was wrong, completely.
That said, the election was very much stolen, and history will bear that out. I'm not asking you whether you agree with me, just stating a plain fact.
I happily voted for Kamala Harris and had a really good day, so... thanks?

If speaking up for Palestine wouldn't have helped her win, at least it would have helped PALESTINE! In hindsight, you have to admit that pandering to the right turned out to be the wrong call because she lost anyway and gave them false legitimacy.
Really though, the election was stolen so whatever.
I'm just here for the Vogon poetry.
01.03.2026 04:24 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0This analogy reminds me very strongly of most people's attitude toward conspiracies. They've seen really stupid conspiracy theories getting pushed and swallowed by the worst people they know, so they tune out when anything sounds like a conspiracy. As if there aren't any real conspiracies. π€·ββοΈ

What I mean about moving to another country being so expensive is more than just the initial costs. It might be really hard to find a job that will allow you to keep paying your American debts.
That was a big part of why we picked Japan, but even so, we had to move back when student loans came due.
