Hm, taxes didn't really enter into it for me because I wasn't making that much. It wasn't even that expensive where we lived in Japan. Basically, I needed to get a different kind of job that would pay me enough to cover my debts from college (loans and credit). So I eventually went back to coding. 🤷‍♂️

This analogy reminds me very strongly of most people's attitude toward conspiracies. They've seen really stupid conspiracy theories getting pushed and swallowed by the worst people they know, so they tune out when anything sounds like a conspiracy. As if there aren't any real conspiracies. 🤷‍♂️

What I mean about moving to another country being so expensive is more than just the initial costs. It might be really hard to find a job that will allow you to keep paying your American debts.

That was a big part of why we picked Japan, but even so, we had to move back when student loans came due.

True. I was able to work in Japan because I'd earned a bachelor's degree and found a job. My wife and kid were able to come along, but my wife didn't have her degree yet, so she wasn't allowed to work more than a certain number of hours.

In my 20s, I moved to Japan (on credit), and the experience of immediately getting free healthcare (even dental) really stuck with me.

I hope you're right, but I used to think Musk was bound to sell Twitter after his disastrous start with it. It just keeps getting propped up though, long after he destroyed the brand (literally renaming it even because he never gave a shit about it).

Don't get me wrong... I love the show, and I love the characters, but wow, every season they find new ways to be terrible people. Not in an actively malevolent way but mostly through weakness. They're not quite as bad as the Always Sunny gang, but it hits harder because they're more realistic.
