I’m sorry, but why does everything have to revolve around Platner? Most leftists I see and know are either 1) against him or 2) not even talking about him. Why is he somehow the main topic of conversation when my spaces are either disavowing him or focusing their energy on organizing?

I am not discounting those experiences. I’m asking why you are jumping to that when it’s very clear spaces to the right are objectively and statistically worse. And, as an ally who organizes in said spaces, I can give some credit here to at least one organization that stresses safe spaces.

But we all saw this and it was part of the opsec debate.

Speaking of putting words in mouths, I brought up supporting leftist ideas— which are objectively better than anything to the right, flaws and all— and you mention how the Left is sexist. Why jump to that?

DSA and leftist candidates do all of this too. just because I can’t fit them all, doesn’t mean they’re somehow negated or ommitted. The Trans Rights Bodily Autonomy group does immense work in DSA.

I also find this point interesting because Stancil finally got the media he wanted, and when it didn’t go his way, he and his liberal supporters and defenders on here dogpiled the journalist, who was a woman.

I’ve not seen any more misogyny from the Left than I do from any other group. The accusations mostly sadly reek of online Bernie Bro 2016 used to knock left ideas. I’ve been offline in Left spaces that have set up better guardrails and consequences against this, BIPOC misogyny, transmisogyny, etc.

I agree. People should join DSA and/or other organizations and canvass for candidates that push for single payer healthcare, to abolish ICE, and to end arms to Israel. They shouldn’t spend much of their time complaining about things they do nothing about themselves. It’s not productive.

what would you think is good substantive change? i was telling people to canvass for Zohran and join DSA. i also see that a lot from fellow comrades. is that wrong?

the starter pack thing had such a detrimental effect on this place because it was not an organic construction of followers. people flocked to accounts they thought had the answers outside of X (because some people they knew told them to) while said accounts had a validated ego boost for nothing.

i think we need to be honest about the limitations of platforms, not as much solely on whether one is rightwing or leftwing, but rather how well you can spread leftist ideology and get people active in reform. otherwise, you’re just shouting into the void or tallying engagement on a Substack.

both can be bad! neither are actually good for the Left because X is mostly Nazis, whereas Bluesky is liberal convo constraint. folks on here mocked “abolish ICE” after the 2024 election. if you talk back to people like that, they block you and your convos disappear. not good for a small platform.
