During the Bern Consortium meeting, experts from ETH Zürich, Berner Fachhochschule BFH and Riz du Vully gave some presentations about soil mapping surveys, innovative remote sensing tools, effects of rice cultivation on soil properties, and the geological context of soil profile. #DeepHorizon

But what about deep soils? Beneath our feet, subsoils store carbon, regulate water and sustain life. Through this project, we are exploring this unseen frontier to improve subsoil health, strengthen ecosystems and build a more resilient future.

As part of the DeepHorizon Project, our members from the #UNIBO carried out a dissemination and laboratory activity during the XXII National Conference of “The Research Language”, held at the Italian National Research Centre (CNR) on 20 November 2025.

Science in action 👩‍🔬🌽
As part of the 𝐃𝐞𝐞𝐩𝐇𝐨𝐫𝐢𝐳𝐨𝐧 𝐩𝐫𝐨𝐣𝐞𝐜𝐭, we’re studying how crop roots reach water and nutrients deep in the soil under different management practices.
