I posit that it's just an inconvenient truth that doesn't conform with his idealized opinion that the US won the whole thing on its own so he has repressed that information internally.

That knucklehead really doesn't know how to extend an olive branch to estranged allies. Instead of being gracious to the UK about it possibly sending carriers (for reasons we happen to know has less to do with the US than its own interests but I digress) Trump has decided it warrants mockery.
