Early Career Researchers Response to UKRI Investment Approach
Dear PhD students, PDRAs and early career researchers, You may be aware of a recent UKRI funding restructure announcement (there is a discussion here: . In STFC-funded science, particle physics, astronomy, and nuclear physics are facing 30% cuts to research areas. This is obviously a disaster and will impact the future careers of many of you. At the same time, Ian Chapman (chief of UKRI) said in the Science, Innovation, and Technology Select Committee that the FLF programme is a cornerstone of the UKRI strategy.

STFC – reprioritisation of PPAN investments
Dear Particle Physics, Astronomy and Nuclear Physics (PPAN) community, Context In October, UKRI received its four-year budget from DSIT of £38.6 billion, rising to nearly £10 billion per annum by the end of the period, with details published in December. Set against a challenging fiscal backdrop, it is more important than ever to ensure that this level of public investment in R&D maximises economic and societal benefits to the UK public.

Call for abstract: COSPAR 2026 E2.3, “The Life Cycle of Prominences: New Insights from Solar Orbiter and the Multi-messenger Era”
Dear colleagues, We would like to invite you to submit an abstract to this COSPAR session, to be held in Florence, Italy, 1-9 August 2026. This session offers an opportunity to review advances in solar and stellar prominences as laboratories for investigating cool, partially ionized plasmas. Leveraging multi-viewpoint data from Solar Orbiter and ground-based facilities, we will address prominence formation, stabilization, and the loading and drainage of plasma in partially ionized fibrils.
