National parks change prioritizes Trump birthday over days honoring Black people Free entrance days at national parks no longer include MLK Day and Juneteenth.

It might be easy to find things like this merely petty or superficial, but that would be a mistake. Demeaning, erasing or eliminating celebrations or acknowledgments of Black America is straight from Redemption playbook, and is intended to reinforce the racial hierarchy and signal its reinstatement.

My employer, Dartmouth College, today boasts it's 1st Ivy "to launch AI at an institutional scale." It is doing this by partnering--"more than a collaboration"--with Anthropic, a company that stole the books of many faculty, me included, which many of us are suing.

Social scientists spent the last 50 years arguing that racism is still prevalent in US even if it's covert (racism w/ a veneer), unconscious (racism w/out intent), or systemic (racism w/out racists).

Along comes MAGA, which embraces gutter racism while claiming that teaching about racism is racist.

Thing is, it wouldn't be a huge jump for advertisers to personalize their ads like this. It would be simple on devices we have to create accounts for and log into. Then we will get freaky experiences like we see in Minority Report with directed ads calling us out with personalized recommendations.

The Unitarian Universalist flaming chalice symbol, a lamp topped with a flame on a stand, surrounded by two overlapping rings.

This is a really local (Sun Prairie, Wisconsin) question.
Back in 2019 or so I came across a building there - some kind of a senior citizen facility - that was using the Unitarian Universalist logo. It wasn't a church and I'm not even sure it had UU affiliation. Does anyone know what it is/was?

What does it say about this country that that the kind of open, rank bigotry Trump administration officials regularly express towards black immigrants apparently has no social cost because of the number of Americans who quietly agree or don't care.

Her baby was in the NICU. She was in ICE detention. Before Trump took office, postpartum immigrants were rarely detained by ICE. Nayra GuzmΓ‘n was detained while her 15-day-old baby was in the NICU.

GuzmΓ‘n, an immigrant from Mexico, had a pending petition for asylum and a pending application for a visa for victims of crime. That didn't stop ICE from separating her from her 15-day-old infant in NICU. 19thnews.org/2025/12/post... via @19thnews.org
