21.10.2025 15:18 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Checking out the βHouse of Binnsβ for future Astronomy events with colleagues from the ASE last night. Patchy cloud but we set up numerous scopes and I took the Societyβs 10β
Dob. Good views of Comet Lemmon, Saturn and the Double Cluster. Facilities were good and access fine. Good fun as always.
Another shot of Comet Lemmon form Callander this time. SeeStar50 with iPhone processing. 8mins to get this image. Amazing little machine

13.10.2025 06:29 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0Following the Supermoon get together at Meadow park Edinburgh last Tuesday, I took the outreach Dob into the garden on Wednesday night. A couple of attempts holding the iPhone to the eyepiece gave these results.
11.10.2025 06:42 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Took the family to see the Greenwich meridian location in Cleethorpes but they have identified wrong place. The true meridian is a further 5β east of the place shown so I drew a line with a stone! I guess this was done pre GPS.

Alberio, taken last night from the back garden with hand held iPhone. However it was looking through the eyepiece of a 10" Dobsonian!
The Orange star is actually a number of stars very close together the biggest of which is a red super giant. It is 4383Β°.
The hotter blue star is 13200Β°.
Nice detail on the moon showing tonight near the terminator. Alpine ridge looks great. Hand held iPhone photo through the eyepiece of 10β Dobsonian telescope

We are hoping to live stream the partial eclipse tomorrow using the 6β Cooke on Calton hill, Edinburgh. Starting at 10.00 am

I played the piece to my granddaughter and you have a new fan. Started asking lots of questions so I might send her your way.

14.03.2025 20:08 β π 2 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0I think Trump and Putin decided awhile ago to carve out their sphere of influence. Russia gets Europe, USA gets North, central America and Greenland and who knows what China will want. The Middle East and India et al will continue to be a conflict zone.

07.03.2025 17:07 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0A good look at the moon last night and a great time to see the craters along the shadowβs edge (the terminator). A pair of binoculars if you donβt have a telescope shows l lot of extra detail. I held an iPhone to the eyepiece and grabbed a couple of images.

05.03.2025 22:42 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0There were 28 people from the estate came to look through the telescope tonight including a large number of children. They saw Venus, Jupiter and Mars and all said they enjoyed the experience. Must repeat when the moon is in the right place and the sky is clear.
28.02.2025 22:10 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Plan for Visit to Rosewell scouts next week for their Space badge includes:
Construction of a full size model of Sputnik1 ( one I built 7 yrs ago) and using sheets and marbles to make gravity wells. Advanced stuff for badges these days!
Gather a few adults and children from the estate to
look at the planets and some constellations tonight. They all
enjoyed seeing these through telescope for the first time.

19.02.2025 16:20 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0It is due to be clear and very cold tonight. Sounds like the telescope will be out keeping me company looking at the celestial delights of the winter sky. Mars, Jupiter and Orion on the menu.
