It’s always a different journey for different artists. Try to see which makes it more fun for you and then continue on with that path.

Imitation is always a good start just to feel for the flow of the lines. I remember trying to copy dragon ball z on tv prior. And when you are a bit familiar, then it’s good to start learning the basics to make things easier. But that’s just how I learned it myself.
