This was my singles longlist when @bradluen.bsky.social polled 1974 several years ago. There is some rock on there, but only several that actually hit (Lynyrd, Nazareth, Golden Earring, Grand Funk, BTO). The Dolls tracks were singles in, like, France.

Back in Radio On, Chuck Eddy invented "The Line Controversy Rating": I'd already come up with the Controversy Rating, which was the avg deviation from the avg score (TSJ still uses this); what Chuck did was to multiply this by the number of lines or sentences that people wrote about a track.
