Londonβs National Gallery to cut staff as it faces Β£8.2m deficit
The institution is offering a βvoluntary exit schemeβ for all employees and will be reducing its activities
News of these cuts at the National Gallery is worrying for everyone who works there. That a major gallery is in such a dire financial position shows just how difficult things are in the heritage sector.

Image that reads: Prospect is a politically independent union, but our members are deeply affected by political instability.
Not only does this directly affect our members working in the civil service, but political chaos leads to economic instability that affects all working people.
Having just got the Employment Rights Act on the statute book, we need a government focused on delivery that can ensure the roadmap is met and these rights are delivered in full.
This cannot be a wasted year of drift and division in government.
We need calm heads to prevail in the coming days.
We are politically independent, but like all working people, our members are deeply affected by political instability.
