Treat it as a formality, most hiring managers will think it's BS and are only doing it because it's a corporate requirement.

Find a friend or colleague who had someone they love die of covid in the UK and tell them you wish the same had happened here in NZ, tell them they're fools for being envious of our fully covid free months and months and months...

NZ's covid response was too draconian compared to the UK? Cool, let's execute 20k NZers, add in some extra lockdowns, totally fuck at least one Christmas for everyone, and still be in the shit worse afterwards, just like the UK under BoJo.

The report’s rather simplistic suggestion that better information will somehow suffice (suggesting authors never spoke to or learnt from disinfo experts) doesn't counter what was then, & still is a strategic, sustained, sophisticated, industrial-scale, coordinated assault on the national psyche.

IMO, Phase 2 report skims over what The Disinformation Project documented as a more strategic, sustained shift towards extremist ideologies, & intentional radicalisation during Covid-19. In a quick reading, the official review overlooks the systemic complexity of NZ's media/information ecologies.

As a lifelong Wellingtonian, I remain incredibly fucking annoyed that the impact of the violent Parliament lawn occupation on Wellington residents has never been meaningfully acknowledged or reviewed and I sincerely wish nothing but the worst for the occupiers quoted in the Royal Commission reports.

ANZCO working to get shipment of beef destined for Middle East back to New Zealand Premium beef cuts with a shelf life of 120 days that were on the way to Dubai have been parked by shipping companies in various ports.

I guess this is a timely reminder that the reason we can't afford meat anymore is that the cartel is exporting it all overseas www.rnz.co.nz/news/country...

Screenshot of Facebook post by ex-National MP, current mayor of Nelson, Nick Smith:
I congratulate my former Deputy Mayor, Rohan O'Neill-Stevens, on his selection as the Greens candidate in Nelson for this year's General Election and wish him the very best for a strong ranking on the Greens party list.
Rohan was an outstanding Deputy Mayor for our city, bringing a sharp mind, generous spirit and the voice of a new generation to Council. We often disagreed but we were also able to find common ground and make positive progress on so many issues.
I have worked closely with many Green MPs from the party's founders Jeanette Fitzsimons and Rod Donald 30 years ago as an MP on Select Committees, twice as Minister for the Environment and Conservation and more recently as Mayor. Rohan would match up with the best. He has a maturity way beyond his years and gets the responsibilities that go with governance. He is resolute in his views but, unlike too many in the Greens, appreciates other perspectives and can find compromise. These are essential skills the Greens need in an MMP Parliament.
Nelson, the Green Party and NZ will be better if Rohan is in our next Parliament and I wish him the very best for November 7th.

Reading through the 4 enumerated items in particular, it is super clear that robust public research capability is needed to address them all. At the same time, this government is further destroying that very capability and the pathways for training up the next generations.

Austerity settings will ensure that the other mostly decent recommendations from the Royal Commission will never be meaningfully addressed and our health and regulatory systems will continue to decline. It'll be just another expensive report that gets lip service for a week before being forgotten.

New Zealand, like many other countries impacted by COVID-19, is in a weaker position to weather the next large economic shock than it was at the start of the pandemic. There is a pressing need to reduce public debt to provide a buffer for future pandemics or other economic shocks. The best approach to reducing debt involves economic growth driven by productivity improvements, accompanied by disciplined fiscal management. The Treasury should publish a regular report on financial resilience, and this should guide the objectives stated in the Government's annual Fiscal Strategy report.

I regret to inform you that the phase 2 report of the Covid-19 Royal Commission is neoliberal trash.

Governments following this reduce debt at all costs bullshit are not setting us up for success in the next pandemic.

THIS. Tamatha Paul is right - but if you'd pardon my French it's a little fucking rich of media outlets like The Post who repeatedly laundered and amplified this kind of dirty politics to be riding the ethical high horse. #nzpol

NZME's Ryan Bridge amplified this claim and tried to gotcha Tamatha Paul, asking her "what's more important, flushing the toilet or riding a bike". Instead of apologising for spreading disinformation, NZME gave him a TV show.

Coin used as Leeds bus fare was 2,000‑year‑old currency The coin was handed down to Peter Edwards from his grandfather in the 1950s.

This is the sort of thing a cashless society robs us of, the opportunity to try to get away with paying the bus fare in Carthaginian currency www.bbc.co.uk/news/article...
