When the Red Sox do this, it frustrates me. They gave up a pretty good pitching prospect in Sandalin even if he’s gonna be 25. Instead of kicking in more money to cover Hicks contract. They basically gave a top 15 prospect to the White Sox to avoid giving money which they have plenty of.

This coincides with their decision to use the DH spot as a place to rotate all the OF through. Instead of a guy who can just..hit. Trade an OF, give away Masa for a bag of balls and lay some of the contract. Let Casas just be the DH. Stable daily OF.

They are willing to trade from the depth of pitching in the minors, but they have a surplus of MLB every day regular OFs. That is the position of strength they need to trade from. Clear ABs and get something of value there. Especially now that we lost Rob Ref today. A RH hitting OF or more pitching.

You saw this last year as well. The defense doesn’t have enough depth. The OL either. I know Brad and Dan love to have toys to play with on offense, but they need to invest VERY heavy capital in those areas in FA and the draft. Injuries have sunk them these last 2 years.

same issue I saw as a Pats fan last few years. The importance of a real, true, OC that knows how to call a game & ADJUST in real time flow can not be underestimated. That many weapons on offense DET should still be a problem. Yes, the OL is banged up- adjust the scheme and game plan.
