A photograph of hands holding a young plant with soil around its roots. Over the image is the headline โCan more plants be grown here?โ Below is a quote from Natalie Bennett asking the Government whether it plans to conduct a feasibility study on what percentage of imported plants can be grown in the UK, and what steps it will take to develop an action plan for productive and ornamental trees. A small circular photo of Natalie Bennett appears near the bottom alongside her name and title, Green Party Peer, with the Green Party logo at the bottom of the graphic.
Building resilience means strengthening domestic plant production.
Understanding what can be grown in the UK is a practical step towards protecting nature, livelihoods and supply chains.

They are both found on water and they have a role they play in biological biodiversity
What do you think about it and how can we save biodiversity in our water bodies
Mushroomsโquiet, overlooked, essential. The ESA protects the obvious. Most species disappear quietly.
The Endangered Species Act lets us measure our virtue even as the world empties around us.
This is an excerpt from a larger piece about what protection meansโฆ.and what it fails to capture.

Leadbeaterโs possum โ a critically endangered species that shows how policy delays and habitat loss outpace protection.
Protecting a species without protecting its ecosystem is like saving a single lung and calling the patient cured. Stay tuned. My upcoming essay on the Endangered Species Act explores how policy too often mistakes paperwork for protection.
Wetlands have been decimated by agriculture and development. Scenes like this are becoming increasingly rare as forests, wetlands, and soils โ the living systems that absorb and sustain Earthโs carbon balance โ disappear.
We didnโt just fill the sky with carbon โ we dismantled Earthโs ability to absorb it. Forests, wetlands, soils, oceans โ the lungs, heart, skin, and blood of a living planet.
Clear-cut forest with felled logs piled in the foreground โ a stark reminder of humanityโs ongoing impact on Earthโs living systems.
By romanticizing the past and rationalizing the present, we hide from the enormity of what weโve doneโฆ..and are still doing to Earthโs living systems.
