BI 232 How Should Neuroscience Integrate with Ecological Psychology?
YouTube video by Brain Inspired BI 232 How Should Neuroscience Integrate with Ecological Psychology?

Luis Favela, @dewitmm.bsky.social, and yours truly talked to @braininspired.bsky.social about ecological neuroscience. Among other things, we tried to comment on how to make "affordances" and "ecological information" helpful for neuroscientists. Check it out!

Radical embodiment in two directions - Synthese Radical embodied cognitive science is split into two camps: the ecological approach and the enactive approach. We propose that these two approaches can be brought together into a productive synthesis....

I get the sentiment, but it’s an overly broad judgment. Sometimes a student, in conversation for instance, offers a crucial insight and you invite them to help finish a paper.

The mistake seems to come from citing Cisek, who *does* say affordances are β€œrepresented”. But he’s using the neural meaning of representation which is much looser than the CTM definition. What Cisek says is compatible with neural resonance, which is a bona fide Gibsonian notion.

Yes. Looks like confirmation with better methods of something we knew more than 20 years ago. And as @jtheriault.bsky.social points out, it’s even more complicated than this. Oversimplification has been a drag on neuroscience for decades.

Why Natural General Intelligence (Still) Reigns Supreme When someone tells you that AI is going to replace human intelligence, you can honestly tell them that, as of this writing, it's impossible. So far, AI only reproduces what we do.

Very simple post on why AI is less than meets the eye. www.psychologytoday.com/us/blog/afte...

Not exactly. Immigration per se isn’t in the constitution (congress has explicit control over naturalization, but not immigration). So it’s a bit of a legal black hole. The executive says that its authority over foreign affairs gives it power over immigration, and the courts have deferred to this.

Is ecological neuroscience a feasible enterprise? After some theoretical work on ecological resonance, we've engaged on experimental research to test some of the hypotheses that follow from it. These are the first results of (hopefully) many more to come! It's open access πŸ‘‡
