today I am flipping between the Homestuck epilogues and the fall of reach novel in an epic show of multitasking that isn't at all going to confuse me

(guy who just wants to read halo but has to finish Homestuck or my sibling is going to kill me)

the animated thing has a series of coin flips with John just calling it 5 times but in the book it happens once and that mother fucker caught it midair and called it. Like Halsey isn't sure if it was luck or if he improbably managed to pick the outcome he wanted.
It's a very important scene

there's so much stuff that's rushed past or truncated for time that the nuance of it is lost.
Like John's handshake was a moment Halsey noted and it just happens.
"What game were you playing? War?" "King of the Hill." does NOT have the same vibes as the novel's "What were you doing?" "Winning"

I rewatched a bunch of halo things recently and finally got around to seeing the Fall of Reach animated thingie and kind of stopped near the end just because I couldn't take how bad it was. Rereading the book now and it's so much better. It's not even that complex of a book but like miles ahead.
