i feel more motivated to make than i have in a very long time, and it's in no small part thanks to the creative influences—like sleep token's music—that found me when i needed inspiration the most.

this was such a fun challenge, and it felt so good to complete a tangible creative project after being sick (did you know you could have chronic appendicitis? did you know you could have untreated chronic appendicitis for two years??? because i didn't! 😃) and burnt out for so long.

considering that and the fact that this was my first attempt at linocutting since i made an itty bitty geocaching stamp as a girl scout about 13 years ago, i think i did pretty okay! 😎

here's the shirt design i drew, carved, and printed to wear at the #sleeptoken show in duluth!! i've designed a few t-shirts before, but before this, i'd never embarked on the process of creating one from brainstorming to print, start to finish.

my toxic trait is delusionally taking credit for hwang hyunjin's decision to get a buzzcut because of the time he made direct eye contact with me during soundcheck at the atlanta maniac tour stop and, upon noticing my freshly bald head, reacted by widening his eyes like a muppet

tl;dr: i'm very grateful to be alive, and that one sucker schmarlson clip makes my blood boil every time i remember it exists. so does the current state of the american healthcare system lmao

a black female doctor saved my life. literally. i don't know where i'd be right now without her, which is a sobering thought. everyone deserves healthcare providers as compassionate, proactive, knowledgeable, and skilled as she is. it's a shame so few like her seem to exist.

more than that, i can't believe it took two years of frequent urgent care visits and being bounced around by several dismissive specialists to find a doctor who took my concerns about my chronic pain and fatigue seriously. i'm forever grateful for the surgeon who finally did.

my hair is growing back thicker. my limbs and head no longer feel like they're made of lead. my baseline level of energy is significantly higher, noticeably so even when i was in the thick of recovering from surgery. i can't believe i lived with chronic appendicitis for two years.

even though i'm sick with a cold right now, i'm still marveling at how much better i feel overall now that my body's no longer actively fighting for its life against an infected organ that was slowly trying to kill it.

what they don't tell you about recovering from laparoscopic surgery is that if they go through your navel you can feel those hypersensitive nerves stitching back together like a ticklish electric tingle. it's random and sudden and intense and regular pain medicine doesn't mask it
