National Strategy will help us tackle Violence Against Women and Girls in York and North Yorkshire – can you help us deliver it? > York and North Yorkshire Combined Authority Jo Coles, York and North Yorkshire Deputy Mayor for Policing, Fire and Crime has met Rachael Maskell, York Central MP and Claire Douglas, City of York Council Leader and staff and service users at the York Women’s Centre to discuss the new national strategy to tackle violence against women and the difference it will mean in our region.

We also provide support to people selling sex and those who are experiencing or at risk of exploitation.

Recently we launched our newest Women’s Accommodation project in York, helping to address one of the key regional challenges.

Our dedicated Women’s Centres in Scarborough and York support people facing multiple disadvantage such as substance use, navigating the criminal justice system and females who have experienced domestic abuse.

We continue to work closely with York and North Yorkshire CA helping to deliver on their VAWG Strategy.

At Changing Lives, we are experts in providing support for women and children, understanding the impact of trauma, the unique barriers they face and the importance of gender-nuanced services.

Homelessness is never a choice. It often begins with a moment of crisis like illness, job loss or family breakdown and can quickly spiral into a cycle that is incredibly hard to escape without support.

We caught up with Rebecca to talk about her journey with us, stepping into a leadership role, the team she now supports, and why flexible, understanding workplaces are so important, particularly when it comes to supporting young mums to thrive at work 🤝

At Changing Lives, we’re committed to supporting people to grow, develop, and progress in their careers.

By coming together, we continue to raise awareness, stand with survivors, and remind our communities that #ItsNotOk

For anyone who wishes to, there will also be space to talk about their experiences of sexual violence in a safe, trauma‑informed setting, supported by our specialist staff.

These sessions are designed to honour each person’s voice and experience in a way that feels right for them 🤝

This week, our women’s drop-in will focus on self‑care, offering a safe space and supportive environment where people can take part in gentle activities such as creative writing, art, and guided reflection.

As part of Sexual Abuse And Sexual Violence Awareness Week our North East teams are creating more space for reflection and connection.

5.1 million adults faced domestic abuse, sexual assault or stalking last year - that’s 1 in 10 people.

We remain committed to supporting survivors of Sexual Abuse and Violence and tackling it in all its forms.

We deliver services supporting sex workers, people who’ve experienced sexual exploitation, and those involved in survival sex, groups often at heightened risk yet are often the least believed, least supported, and most stigmatised.

This week across Changing Lives we are supporting Sexual Abuse & Sexual Violence Awareness Week 💜

Later in the day Sarah also spoke regarding the voice of the survivor and the importance of this, something which is incorporated across our work at Changing Lives.

The operation highlights an excellent example of partnership working and how this work is critical in safeguarding and engaging victims who are survivors of sexual exploitation. The partnership also focuses on information sharing and intel gathering.

Alongside a whole host of great speakers, Sarah Clarke, Modern Slavery and Human Trafficking, VAWG Lead for Changing Lives spoke alongside Detective Chief Inspector Sarah Corr from Operation Pluto.

Today several of our Changing Lives teams attended the National Police Chiefs' Council: Breaking Stigma and Ending Exploitation conference.

We focus on delivering life skill programmes, supporting young people to gain essential skills for living independently and maintaining a tenancy when they are able to move on from our services 💜

Changing Lives work across London with young people facing homelessness, providing accommodation and support to live independently.

Recent reports have shown more Londoners are homeless and stuck in temporary accommodation than ever before. With London Councils stating as of November: "there are about 210,000 Londoners experiencing homelessness."

More than 100,000 of those being children.
