That the inventor of the computer mouse in recent weeks earned himself an indefinite site ban after a two-decade crusade against such sins as capitalising “draft” in “NFL Draft” speaks volumes about the bizarro world social system that underpins the place.

So much of Wikipedia is, like this, enforced essentially by one frighteningly dedicated individual without any reference to norms and practices in the real world.

lol I saw those absolute peanuts try to rehash it at AN - you’re doing the lord’s work there

I think if Britain colonised your country of origin you should get free BBC iplayer.

It’s pretty disturbing how the right of Victorian politics, having spent the better part of a decade radicalising its base, gets to repeatedly turn around and pretend Nazis are not their problem. Disturbing because it’s not clear where this leads.

Actually they’re all chronically online anti-Labor NIMBYs, apart from the council and golf club reps. Literally zero point to this.

I genuinely feel sorry for the SRL staff who have to spend two hours a month answering absolutely insane questions from Heatherton QAnon with a straight face.

Meanwhile in Melbourne we have the entire establishment trying to radicalise outer suburban voters into January 6ing railway tunnels.

Interested by your take that it’s likely not a final timetable. I find it hard to see Wefo/Westall shorts through the day given the relatively modest overall funding

I wouldn’t describe this as a community group so much as a one-personal political project of incredible intensity.

I suppose the counter argument to breaking at Ararat vs Ballarat is that a BOG means the expense of a new depot and transfers to Melbourne etc. committing at Ballarat would at least open the possibility of extensions towards Geelong and Mildura at a future point

Either put more trams up Elizabeth St or start shooting tourists for catching trams from Melbourne Central to the market.

I would also like to see the entire idea of the voucher scheme abolished – that is after all the root cause – but it’s so deeply embedded in the economy now I’m not sure it’s viable without intermediate steps

Yeah look I handle a plan on behalf of someone so I see the good up close but also the very very bad and wasteful. Likewise I have no rose coloured glasses about the state system but it’s very clear the economists have massively overreached here

IMO the only way this is going to be possible at this point is a major (re-)expansion of public sector providers who can force some of the rent seeking out of the sector, combined with nationalising big components of plan management and coordination.

The NDIS is quite obviously eating the budget and to an extent the economy. It’s pretty worrying to see the right-wing rhetoric ramp up without any serious advocacy from anywhere else about major structural reforms that could make it sustainable while preserving rights and welfare of participants.

Yeah I’m basing my judgement entirely on 78 and 380 routes so I don’t doubt that.

I think one reading of the whole episode is that the Trump guys miscalculated only insofar as failing to realise that he would see it as a betrayal of the polite fictions that normally characterise the liberal–war machine relationship.

Personally I reckon Qantas international is hugely underrated these days but there’s no question flying domestic – especially out of MEL – is about as grim as catching a bus from Keilor Plains.

24.03.2025 22:04 — 👍 3    🔁 0    💬 1    📌 0

Yeah well Qantas did reprioritise basically their entire order book to go to Jetstar the last 5 years.

If we accept your premise Mister Heatherton then the choice is whether to implement price signals with a net gain or loss of state revenue and I sure know which I’d choose

Statement via FAA: A PSA Airlines Bombardier CRJ700 regional jet collided in midair with a Sikorsky H-60 helicopter while on approach to Runway 33 at Reagan Washington National Airport around 9 p.m. local time.
