Btw the solution to the “set piece problem” in PL football is to call fouls like that consistently as penalties while also nerfing the crowd-the-keeper strategy. Cause if you do the latter without doing the former you’ve shifted the balance of the league too much in favor of defending

The serious answer is, you have to approach both issues but I don’t know any solution to the problem of the low blocks. Maybe you implement the UEFA handball rules, but that gives you a bunch of crap penalty decisions everyone hates and you’ve just subbed one problem for another.

solved the short blanket problem of football defense. If you recruit a squad of nothing but freak athletes you can both pack the center of the pitch on defense and spread out to attack after you win the ball back, at the cost of conceding corners. The meat wall is the counter to the modern low block

Personally I think the league should tweak the rules in the summer. Not mid-competition, that’s unfair. But my concern is that the “problem” that’s being focused on is primarily the corners when what’s really happened is that the PL in particular (with the money to recruit the best athletes) has 1/2

So this I really disagree with. Set piece scoring is up across the league this year, open play scoring is down, and it’s not just Arsenal. The meat wall is real and it’s changing the league
