Yes the Warlord Games Epic Battles range, I got the starter box about a month ago and have just been steadily ploughing through the sprues - hoping to have it mostly finished by the end of the year.

A saker, a small artillery piece made from 13.5mm figures on a circular base.

A culverin, a larger piece.

A command stand including a mounted figure and an ensign carrying the Royal Standard.

A few more stands complete for my English Civil War Pike and Shotte army. Two cannon and a command stand which will be King Charles and the Royal Standard. These smaller bases are a nice quick project that helps break up the infantry.

Thanks for the recommendation! This is some perfect holiday watching. I've heard the name but never really known what it was about.

Oh but I can't wait to see those, especially the Crimson Paladins. You'll do such a nice job of them. I converted mine out of Grey Knights but kept the paint jobs quite subdued and normal, as if they were just assault troops rather than super elite mega warriors. What have you got in mind for them?

Oh that's a cool idea, I love any precursor stuff in old battered modern armour - like my 40K World Eaters in Heresy colours. So the Astral Claws went on to become the Red Corsairs? Forgive me this is all very new lore.

8th Squad, 2nd Platoon, now complete, and ready to join the rest of my Death Korps army. The whole project is about 74% complete now. I need to find a better way to store these, I'm running out of shelf space!

The Myriad's engines were a tough nut to crack, but we managed to bring them down. After they were cut from their command uplink, the basic Myriad marines couldn't score VP any more and were easy to round up and destroy.

This weekend I went to Letsxcape cafe in Newark. It's a nice little board gaming space and we booked a table to play a game of mini-Heresy. My Dark Angels, backed up by the Space Wolves, took on the Myriad. A great place for a game!

Of course, as you said Jess - there are no hard and fast rules, and at the end of the day anything that looks cool and which you like would be plausible, and could be explained if you wanted to.

The only certainty is that there's no standardisation, every regiment does it differently - although looking at art and in BL books, I get the sense that the regimental number is most common, because they can just keep that marking until they're destroyed, regardless of amalgamisation/reinforcement.

However as you say you can use the transfers as squad or company markings, in which case each squad/vehicle might be unique. Or you can make a "battlegroup" marking, where everything in the army has the same symbol (my Krieg all have a white skull, representing a temporary battlegroup).

Yes mate I think your previous answer was spot on - there are no mixed regiments in the Guard, so in theory tanks should all be from one regiment, infantry from another, etc. So if you're using transfers as regimental markings (usually the higher numbers) that's the theory. (cont...)

There's one Guard army I have where I play proper "dead is dead". It's rough but it means the few characters that have survived are very special

Haha yeah I find even my best friends are coldly indifferent to the lovingly-crafted lore I write and love to squish all my Guard officers and sergeants to the dust. Best of luck for the game!

Yeah it would be nice to have the option to lean into different types. Looking at it again it's a bit weird. I feel very spoiled now with my Sentinel Commander for Guard - an all-Sentinel army is an idea I've been nursing for about 20 years.

Yep! I'm going to have to go back and re-write all my characters now. There are so many ideas.

These character creation rules from Crucible of Champions are absolutely top tier. Take you right back to full customisation of earlier editions, and fully usable in all games with opponent's consent. This is great to see.

Love a good impulse buy. Anyone got any alternative Red Corsairs paint schemes for inspiration? Thinking of making a fleet-based raiders force, and linking it with a new Battlefield Gothic force of Chaos pirate ships.

Thank you! Yes I've had a pair lying round for ages so thought I'd use them on this character. Went to check it was a valid option and seeing it cost 20pts made me think it must be good. Used it in a game just now and absolutely sliced apart an enemy Centurion.
