How can absolute expression estimates better reflect microbial abundance and activity across space and time? We found out the hard way that relative gene expression measures can be misleading in metatranscriptomic studies. In this perspective we share the lessons we learned! doi.org/10.1093/isme...

Collision of the Stena Immaculate and Solong in the North Sea could become a major oil spill. According to Kpler data, the tanker left Corinth carrying 128k barrels of refined crude. It doesn't appear to have offloaded prior to being hit by the Solong.

Line graph time series of 2025's daily Arctic sea ice extent compared to decadal averages from the 1980s to the 2010s. The decadal averages are shown with different colored lines with purple for the 1980s, blue for the 1990s, green for the 2000s, and white for the 2010s. Thin white lines are also shown for each year from 2000 to 2024. 2025 is shown with a thick gold line. There is a long-term decreasing trend in ice extent for every day of the year shown on this graph between January and April by looking at the decadal average line positions.

I am looking for an ERC-funded postdoc to work on spatial proteomics of microalgae (red algae and glaucophytes). The ideal candidate will have experience with mass spec and data analysis (R), but above all a keen interest in broad eukaryote evolution and protists #protistsonsky (1/2)
