Being able to use a laptop didn't interfere with being able to learn (far from it) but not having one would have doomed me to a worse life had I not been able to work at the same level as everyone else.

A few others started using them by Year 12 but I'll always be glad to have pioneered it. I wouldn't have been able to go to uni or have a career if I hadn't been able to use a computer as an aide in those days.

Was finally given the green light to try it again in high school circa the very early 2000s and, it was world-changing. I could actually keep up with my classmates and finally showed my potential.

So funny story - I was the first person allowed to use a laptop in class in the mid-90s (I'm disabled and handwriting is very difficult) but the problem was primary school classes weren't designed for that, so I had to primarily continue to use pen and paper despite this and fell further behind.
