22.11.2025 05:53 — 👍 945 🔁 96 💬 9 📌 0Taking asylum seekers jewellery is a hardy Labour trope.
In 1999 Mike O’Brien MP immigration minister proposed legislation to take asylum seekers valuables worth over £2,000.
Asked if that meant taking asylum seekers jewellery in committee he said, ‘that is exactly what we will do’
I shouldn’t be, but I am genuinely shocked at quite how low this govt is willing to go. Utterly shameful stuff.

It raises a narrow point of law, it would make a huge difference to intersex Britons, and most legislation intended to be anti-trans is also directly anti-intersex. It's low at the mo. You can help!

Just ugly, cruel choices by ministers too cowardly to tax the wealthy rather than cut the poor. A shameful day for Starmer’s Labour.

interesting to see how much more coverage here we're getting of a chant at a music festival than the IDF being ordered to shoot and murder people in Gaza who are seeking aid!

29.06.2025 07:56 — 👍 73 🔁 2 💬 2 📌 0Police in Somerset say they are assessing comments made on stage by rap punk duo Bob Vylan and Irish-language rap group Kneecap at Glastonbury Festival on Saturday. The government has "strongly condemned" chants from Bob Vylan who called for "death" to the Israeli military during their performance which was broadcast live on the BBC. Rapper Bobby Vylan led chants of "free, free Palestine" and "death, death to the IDF [lsrael Defense Forces]". A BBC spokesperson said some of the comments were "deeply offensive", adding it had issued a warning on screen about "very strong and discriminatory language". The set will not be available to rewatch on BBC iPlayer. The Israeli Embassy posted on the social media site X that it was "deeply disturbed by the inflammatory and hateful rhetoric".
After Bob Vylan's performance, a government spokesperson said Culture Secretary Lisa Nandy had spoken to BBC director general Tim Davie to seek an "urgent explanation about what due diligence" the broadcaster carried out ahead of airing the act. The government added that it welcomed the decision not to re-broadcast the performance on BBC iPlayer.
I mean, this is just straight up censorship by the government and the BBC
