08.03.2026 17:41 β π 4333 π 1607 π¬ 84 π 39It would be only fair to the reader to say frankly in advance that the attitude of any person toward this story will be distinctly influenced by his theories of the Negro race. If he believes that the Negro in America and in general is an average and ordinary human being, who under given environment develops like other human beings, then he will read this story and judge it by the facts adduced. If, however, he regards the Negro as a distinctly inferior creation, who can never successfully take part in modern civilization and whose emancipation and enfranchisement were gestures against nature, then he will need something more than the sort of facts that I have set down. But this latter person, I am not trying to convince. I am simply pointing out these two points of view, so obvious to Americans, and then without further ado, I am assuming the truth of the first. In fine, I am going to tell this story as though Negroes were ordinary human beings, realizing that this attitude will from the first seriously curtail my audience. W. E. BURGHARDT DU BOIS Atlanta, December, 1934
I'd forgotten how hard the preface to DuBois's "Black Reconstruction" (1934) went...and am saddened by how contemporary it still feels.

Assuming a 30-min commute to/from train station, 45-min to/from airport, 30-min early arrival for train and 90-min for plane, 500 mph plane (LAX-JFK is ~450), a 280 mph train is faster than flying any distance less than 950 miles.

What we know, final editionβin 2 parts.
1. Progressives oust 3 Dems who were helping GOP in NC.
2. Dems flip legislative seat in AR.
3. Al Green + Dan Crenshaw down big.
4. #TXSen? Talarico up. GOP runoff.
5. Right holds supreme court seat in AR, but no blowout.
6. TX far-right generally strong.
40% of US rail freight is also fossil fuels, mostly coal. Wind coal down and you free up a lot of rail resources! Some of which could be converted to fast electric passenger trains, which in countries with modern transport infrastructure are faster than air travel for most trips under 1000 miles.

TL;DR: No one owes Conor Lamb an apology for not supporting him in 2022. He ran an insider/moderate campaign then, but has listened to the public and understands the stakes of where we are now. Fetterman evolved in a different direction.
Bottom line: don't put anyone on a pedestal. 10/10
