Three years ago, at least 94 people, including 35 children, died near Italy in what is known as the Cutro shipwreck.
Humane and rational migration policies are possible, and there is now a rare chance for accountability.

Three years ago, on 26 February 2023, a wooden boat crashed against the rocks and sank a few meters from the shore of #Cutro, Italy. 94 people died, including at least 35 children. The boat had been detected hours earlier without any appropriate reaction from authorities.

One side of the line is under Israeli military control pushing people of #Gaza into the remaining 42 per cent.

It’s been almost three years of war in #Sudan. Our Sudanese colleagues lost homes, loved ones and peace of mind but every day, they still show up to care for others.

During the public consultation, @msf.org called for:
🛑 immediate removal of NGO membership as an aggravating factor
🛡️ explicit protection of humanitarian work from criminal penalties.
Humanitarian aid is not a crime but a right, and criminalising it is a deliberate political choice‼️
It goes even further: criminal proceedings against just one NGO member can allow the Minister of Migration to delete the NGO from the official register, even before any conviction.

This violates EU and international law, ignores repeated recommendations from national and international bodies, and comes at a time of deadly shipwrecks and worsening humanitarian crises at Greece’s borders.
Cooperation, not criminalization, is what is needed.
By making NGO membership an aggravating factor, it exposes aid workers to up to 10 years in prison and heavy fines for simply:
🛟 saving lives
🚑 providing medical care, or
❤️🩹 supporting people seeking asylum.
🧵We are witnessing a worrying global trend: attacks on NGOs.
Greece is no exception!
Solidarity and humanitarian aid are not crimes, yet the new migration law criminalises humanitarian work.
Seeking safety is not a crime.

This is winter in Gaza. People are facing torrential rain and heavy winds while living in makeshift shelters.
All the while Israel continues to block or delay the entry of vital supplies like tents, tarpaulins, and temporary housing.
An alarming escalation of clashes between armed groups and the police in the Bel Air neighbourhood of Port-au-Prince, Haiti, has killed one person and forced the suspension of activities.
In 2025, we marked 10 years of @msf.ca in Lesvos. A decade of care, solidarity and standing with people seeking safety. We celebrated with a photo exhibition and a public discussion with the local community. Our commitment remains the same: quality care for all and defending human dignity.

“While I do have access to the public services as an Egyptian woman, I prefer to come here as I receive all my medications for free,” says Heba, an Egyptian mother of seven.
“It helps me save some money for my family, instead of paying at the pharmacy.”
For many Sudanese and Egyptians alike, living costs are increasing, adding more pressure on them to continue feeding their families. While more Egyptians are now coming to receive care in our mobile clinics, most of the patients remain Sudanese.

Khaled is one of 1.5M Sudanese living in Egypt, many fleeing the war since 2023.
For many Sudanese, their legal status often determines their freedom of movement and access to healthcare, as they fear intimidation or violent reactions.
🧵“We had a comfortable life in Sudan and leaving it was very difficult. But it was our only option,” says Khaled, who is from Al-Jazirah, Sudan, but is now living in Aswan, Egypt.
“Our home country is left without healthcare, older people like me can't stay long without it.”
