The Center and allies just sued the Trump adminโ€™s #EPA for reapproving a weedkiller called #dicamba.

It kills #NativePlants and threatens dozens of imperiled species โ€” including monarch butterflies, since it harms milkweed, the only plant the caterpillars eat ๐Ÿฆ‹๐Ÿฆ‹

Three Spring Beauties. They are tiny white flowers with five petals and stamens with pink pollen. New flowers like the one on top have delicate deep-pink stripes on the petals and older flowers fade to white.

A yellow butterfly is feeding on henbit (Lamium amplexicaule). His wings are partly folded and sticking out of the vegetation so you can't see his head. You can tell he is male because the black borders of his wings are solid instead of lacy. Henbit is a common garden weed that is native to Europe and Asia. Oklahoma Northern Crosstimbers ecoregion 29a.

A large yellow swallowtail butterfly with black tiger stripes and a small bee with long antennae share a thistle flower. Eastern Tiger Swallowtail, Papilio glaucus. I think the bee is Thistle Longhorn Bee, Melissodes desponsus, but I am not great at bee ID. Tall Thistle, Cirsium altissimum. Oklahoma Northern Crosstimbers ecoregion 29a.

This is Drummond's Aster/Symphyotrichum drummondii. Emerald-green heart shaped leaves that are slightly toothed on the edges. I haven't cut back last years stems and leaves yet, which are dry and orangey brown.

In a garden where you see the same (large) bugs every day, you start to see them as individuals with distinct habits and "personalities", even within the same species. And they also seem to recognize you over time.

I would choose something less aggressive because it needs such heavy pruning. It once grew into the attic of our garage and it goes under the driveway to the lawn. (It was already here in the ground apparently and came up when we moved in and put up a fence.)

A bunch of pots made of 2 liter soda bottles and some plastic plant pots in a blue swimming pool. A chunk of old straw in the middle holds them up. I sowed: Asclepias viridis, Ipomopsis rubra, Centaurea americana, Eryngium leavenworthii, Nuttallanthus texanus, Phacelia hirsuta, Oenothera filiformis (?), and several other plants that I already have and want more of. I will probably add more containers later, and sow more in spring. I accidentally direct-sowed all my Echinacea pallida seed when I meant to save some for the containers.
